Tue Jan 28 18:57:34 IST 2025: ## Bumrah Bowls Over Competition, Wins Prestigious Sir Garfield Sobers Award
**Mumbai, India –** Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been named the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year for 2024, winning the coveted Sir Garfield Sobers Award. This prestigious accolade marks Bumrah as the fifth Indian to receive the honour, following in the footsteps of Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Virat Kohli.
Bumrah’s dominant 2024 season saw him shatter records across all formats. He became the fastest Indian pacer to reach 200 Test wickets, boasting a remarkable sub-20 bowling average – the best in history. His exceptional form propelled him to the top of the ICC Test Bowling Rankings, where he achieved a record-breaking 907 points – the highest ever for an Indian bowler.
In Test cricket alone, Bumrah amassed a staggering 71 wickets in just 13 matches, maintaining a breathtaking average of under 15. His performance was instrumental in keeping India competitive in the ICC World Test Championship, despite their eventual failure to reach the final.
The ICC lauded Bumrah’s consistent brilliance across various conditions, describing him as the standout bowler of the year. He beat out strong competition from fellow nominees Travis Head, Joe Root, and Harry Brook, as well as ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year Kamindu Mendis.
“I am deeply honoured to receive the ICC men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award,” Bumrah said in a statement. He attributed his success to the support of his teammates, coaches, and fans, emphasizing the privilege of representing India.
