Tue Jan 28 13:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Pandya: Dhoni’s Finishing Heir, Says Former India Coach

**Mumbai, India** – Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar has lauded Hardik Pandya, comparing his finishing abilities in ODIs to those of legendary former captain MS Dhoni. Bangar, speaking on Star Sports, highlighted Pandya’s versatility as a key asset to the Indian team.

“In 50-over matches, Pandya has come the closest to replicating MS Dhoni’s role as a finisher,” Bangar stated. He praised Pandya’s ability to guide matches to the final overs and secure victories, while also possessing the skill to rebuild innings when the team is struggling.

Pandya’s impressive ODI statistics – a strike rate of 110.35 in 86 matches and 84 wickets at an average of 35.23 – further support Bangar’s assessment. His T20I record is equally impressive (strike rate 141.55 in 111 matches, 92 wickets at 26.28).

Despite his success and previous stint as T20I captain, Pandya has recently faced setbacks. He was overlooked for the permanent T20I captaincy in favor of Suryakumar Yadav and subsequently removed as vice-captain in the ongoing series against England. However, Bangar commended Pandya’s gracious acceptance of these decisions, calling his handing over of the captaincy to Yadav “commendable.” Bangar expressed his belief that Pandya will continue to strive for future captaincy opportunities.
