Tue Jan 28 01:10:00 IST 2025: ## Brockton Author to Pen Book on Controversial Karen Read Murder Trial

**BROCKTON, MA** – Brockton author Dave Wedge has signed a deal with BenBella Books to write a book about the highly publicized murder trial of Karen Read, accused of killing Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe. The book, titled “Cop Town: Scandal, Corruption and Murder in Suburban America,” is slated for release in 2026 and will be available in hardcover, paperback, ebook, and audiobook formats.

Read’s trial, which ended in a hung jury, has captivated national attention. The commonwealth alleges Read struck O’Keefe with her SUV after a night of drinking, while her lawyers claim others were responsible. A second trial is scheduled for April.

Wedge, a former investigative reporter for the Boston Herald and New York Times bestselling author, emphasized that the book won’t focus on Read’s guilt or innocence, but rather on the broader impact of the case. He described it as “a story of a woman fighting for her life, a story of justice delayed for the O’Keefe family, and a tale of how several families and communities have been torn apart.” He highlighted the human element and the question of accountability at the heart of the tragedy.

This will be Wedge’s eighth book. His biography of Brockton boxing legend Marvelous Marvin Hagler is set for release on June 17th, and a film adaptation directed by Sam Rockwell is in development. Wedge’s previous work, “Patriots Day,” about the Boston Marathon bombing, was adapted into a major motion picture. His true crime book, “Riding With Evil,” is also being developed into a feature film.
