Mon Jan 27 16:52:59 UTC 2025: ## Former Odisha DGP Appointed Advisor to Chief Minister
**Bhubaneswar, Odisha –** Prakash Mishra, a retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, has been appointed as an advisor to Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. The appointment, announced late on January 27th, 2025, is seen as a strategic move by the new BJP government to strengthen its control over the bureaucracy.
Mishra, a 1977-batch IPS officer who served as Odisha’s DGP from 2012 to 2014, also held high-profile positions including Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). He joined the BJP in 2019 after reportedly facing friction with the previous Naveen Patnaik government. Interestingly, Mishra recently authored a book, “Comedy in Khakee: The Humorous Memoirs of a Policeman,” detailing his experiences in the police force.
The Chief Minister’s office currently comprises three IAS officers. However, sources suggest Majhi sought an advisor capable of swiftly navigating bureaucratic challenges and responding effectively to political crises and opposition scrutiny. Mishra’s appointment mirrors the strategies of the previous administration, which also relied heavily on retired bureaucrats as advisors.
In a related development, the Odisha government appointed retired IAS officer Madhusudan Padhi as the new State Election Commissioner.
