Mon Jan 27 23:49:26 IST 2025: ## Experts Seek Long-Term Solution to Thiruchendur Sea Erosion
**Chennai, January 28, 2025** – A committee of experts is working to find a lasting solution to the severe sea erosion affecting Thiruchendur, Tamil Nadu, ensuring the problem isn’t simply shifted elsewhere. The committee, comprising representatives from NCCR, NIOT, IIT-Madras, the Fisheries department, and Nabard, has spent two days analyzing various proposals.
According to S.A. Sannasiraj, a professor at IIT-Madras’ Department of Ocean Engineering, recent storms in the Bay of Bengal caused significant sand loss, a problem extending to Kulasekarapattinam and Thoothukudi. While natural sand replenishment occurs annually, experts are pursuing a proactive, long-term solution. A detailed project report, completed two years ago, awaits government approval after review.
Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P. K. Sekarbabu stated that Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has been informed of the situation and is committed to protecting the villages and temples. The expert committee’s final recommendations will be submitted to the Chief Minister for approval.
