THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, January 28, 2025 – The Kerala State Cabinet today announced a comprehensive export promotion policy for 2025, aiming to transform the state into a major player in the international market. The policy focuses on leveraging Kerala’s natural resources, skilled workforce, and rich heritage to boost exports.
The initiative encourages the development of value-added products and fosters global partnerships for State entrepreneurs. Key sectors identified for export growth include spices, horticulture, agriculture, marine products, processed food, engineering goods, petrochemicals, textiles, defense, aerospace, electronics, Ayurveda, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare, as well as GI-tagged products.
To facilitate this growth, the government will invest in modernizing infrastructure, including cold storage, warehousing, testing laboratories, and state-of-the-art logistics. Financial incentives are also planned, such as subsidies for export-oriented infrastructure, 50% coverage of transportation and handling charges via Kerala ports, and support for participation in international trade fairs. The policy also includes provisions for market intelligence gathering, export documentation subsidies, and funding for research and promotional activities.
The policy emphasizes a sustainable approach, incorporating social, environmental, and governance considerations into investment decisions and promoting an entrepreneurial ecosystem based on responsible business practices. The government will also address connectivity, freight, and logistics challenges currently hindering the industrial sector. Finally, the policy promotes reskilling initiatives for workers in export-oriented industries to meet global market demands and encourages collaboration between industry and academic institutions.
