**New Delhi, January 28, 2025** – The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a notice to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, demanding evidence to support his claim that Haryana is deliberately poisoning the Yamuna River. The ECI’s letter, sent on Tuesday, gives Kejriwal until Wednesday evening to provide details including the type and quantity of chemicals allegedly used, and evidence of Delhi Jal Board engineers preventing a potential mass casualty event.
Kejriwal’s allegations, which prompted complaints from both the BJP and Congress, carry potential penalties under laws relating to statements harmful to national integration and public harmony. The ECI’s action follows a separate allegation by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Atishi concerning dangerously high ammonia levels in Delhi’s water supply, attributed to Haryana. The Commission is also awaiting a report from the Haryana government on the matter. The developments come ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections.
