**New Delhi, January 28, 2025** – A Delhi court has ordered the city police to file a First Information Report (FIR) against journalist Rana Ayyub. The order follows a plea alleging that Ms. Ayyub made derogatory posts on X (formerly Twitter) between 2016 and 2017, containing insults to Hindu deities, anti-India sentiment, and incitement of religious disharmony.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Himanshu Raman Singh ruled that the complaint disclosed cognisable offences, necessitating a police investigation. The police are now mandated to investigate the matter fairly. The application was filed by an advocate who cited the allegedly offensive posts as grounds for the FIR.
