Tue Jan 28 00:07:20 UTC 2025: ## Karimnagar Mayor Accused of Party Switching Amidst Political Spat

**Karimnagar, Telangana – January 28, 2025** – The Congress party has accused Karimnagar Mayor Y. Sunil Rao of switching allegiances from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to the BJP, allegedly orchestrated by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Velchala Rajender Rao, Congress in-charge for the Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency, denounced the move as “political opportunism,” claiming the shift occurred in the presence of Mr. Kumar.

Mr. Rao further criticized both the BRS and BJP, alleging collusion between their local leaders. He pointed to a public feud between Mayor Rao and followers of BRS MLA G. Kamlakar as evidence of “lies and misrule” within the Karimnagar civic body under the previous BRS administration.

The Congress leader also condemned Mr. Sanjay Kumar’s reported negative comments about the Congress government’s flagship housing scheme, “Indiramma Houses,” warning against any criticism of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi or her family.
