Mon Jan 27 16:39:20 UTC 2025: **Ancient Goddess Idol Unearths Political Dispute in Nellore**

NELLORE, Andhra Pradesh, January 27, 2025 – The discovery of a stone idol of a goddess during construction work in VMR Nagar, Nellore, has sparked a political clash between the BJP and CPI(M). The idol, unearthed on Monday, quickly became a focal point for religious devotion, with crowds gathering to offer prayers.

BJP leaders, including district president Vamsidhar Reddy, arrived on the scene and advocated for the construction of a temple to house the idol. However, CPI(M) leaders protested, claiming the land belonged to their party. This led to heated arguments and the intervention of police to prevent further disturbances.

Locals, particularly women, pleaded with political leaders to avoid politicizing the situation and allow the construction of a temple. Mr. Reddy actively resisted attempts by police to move the idol to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) office, insisting that ASI officials conduct any necessary tests on-site. He emphasized the importance of respecting the devotees’ sentiments and their desire for a permanent temple.

The CPI(M) has yet to issue a statement on the matter. The situation remains tense as the political parties contest ownership of the land where the significant historical artifact was found.
