**Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico** – A memorial to Edgar Guzmán López, son of notorious drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, was attacked with explosives on Thursday, January 23rd. The vandalism, targeting a cenotaph located in a Culiacán shopping center parking lot, is believed to be the latest escalation in the ongoing internal power struggle within the Sinaloa Cartel.

Local journalists attribute the attack to “La Mayiza,” a faction aligned with Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, who is vying for control against El Chapo’s sons. This act is seen as retaliation for the January 3rd burning of the grave of Vicente Zambada’s son.
