Tue Jan 28 02:25:25 IST 2025: ## Delhi and Haryana Trade Accusations Over Yamuna River Water Quality

**New Delhi, January 28, 2025** – A bitter dispute has erupted between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi and the Haryana government over the quality of water supplied to the national capital from the Yamuna River. AAP alleges that Haryana is deliberately increasing ammonia levels in the water, accusing the BJP of “water terrorism” and calling it a deliberate attempt to sabotage Delhi’s upcoming elections.

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann wrote to the Election Commission of India (ECI), claiming the contaminated water threatens the fairness of the elections. The ECI has reportedly ordered Haryana to submit a report by Tuesday.

Atishi, at a press conference, linked the alleged water contamination to the BJP’s anticipated electoral defeat, calling it a “despicable act.” AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal echoed these sentiments on X (formerly Twitter), questioning Haryana’s motives.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini countered the allegations, blaming Delhi’s AAP government for inadequate water distribution infrastructure and accusing them of diverting 28 drains into the Yamuna. He challenged Kejriwal to send officials to inspect the water source in Sonipat. BJP sources stated they plan to sue Kejriwal for defamation and will also file a complaint with the ECI.

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) released a statement refuting AAP’s claims, attributing the increased ammonia levels to seasonal variations during winter months (October-February). AAP dismissed this explanation, highlighting the severity of the current situation. The ongoing conflict highlights the deep political divisions surrounding this critical resource issue.
