Tue Jan 28 21:06:53 IST 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Government Regularizes Suspension Periods of Retired IPS Officer

**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh – January 29, 2025** – In a significant move, the Andhra Pradesh government has officially recognized the suspension periods of retired IPS officer A.B. Venkateswara Rao as time served on duty. This decision, made under Rule 5 (B)(4) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, ensures Mr. Rao receives full pay and allowances for the time he was suspended.

Mr. Rao, who retired on May 31, 2024, as the Commissioner, Printing, Stationery & Stores Purchases, faced two periods of suspension: February 8, 2020 to February 7, 2022, and June 28, 2022 to May 30, 2024. These suspensions stemmed from disciplinary proceedings related to alleged misconduct in security equipment procurement and a separate criminal case. However, both suspensions were ultimately overturned – the first by a Supreme Court order in April 2022, and the second by the Central Administrative Tribunal, a ruling later upheld by the High Court.

The government’s order, issued Tuesday by Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, effectively reinstates Mr. Rao’s service record and ensures he receives all due compensation. Any subsistence allowances already paid will be adjusted against his final dues. The Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police has been instructed to implement the order. The previous YSRCP government had suspended Mr. Rao and did not provide him with any posting during the last five years of his career.
