Tue Jan 28 22:43:03 IST 2025: ## Bumrah Bags Prestigious ICC Cricketer of the Year Award

**Hyderabad, India** – Jasprit Bumrah has been named the ICC Cricketer of the Year for 2024, adding another feather to his already impressive cap. The award, the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, recognizes the best all-around cricketer across all formats in a calendar year. This is Bumrah’s second major ICC award this year, following his recent win for ICC Test Cricketer of the Year.

Bumrah’s exceptional 2024 saw him dominate in both Test and limited-overs cricket. He played a pivotal role in India’s victorious ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign in the West Indies and USA, taking 15 wickets at an impressive average of 8.26 and an economy rate of 4.17. His outstanding bowling performances were crucial in India’s victories against Ireland, Pakistan, and England, culminating in a stellar 2/18 performance in the final against South Africa.

His dominance extended to Test cricket, where he topped the wicket charts with 71 wickets at an exceptional average, surpassing all other bowlers in 2024. Bumrah’s contributions were particularly noteworthy in the Border-Gavaskar series against Australia, where he emerged as the highest wicket-taker.

Bumrah’s achievement marks the fifth time an Indian cricketer has won the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy, following in the footsteps of Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli (2018), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), and Rahul Dravid (2004). His selection also marks the return of an Indian cricketer to the award after a seven-year gap, with Kohli being the last Indian recipient in 2018. The ICC lauded Bumrah’s skill, noting his achievement of exceeding 900 points in the ICC Test bowler rankings, reaching a record 907 points by year’s end – the highest ever for an Indian bowler. Bumrah was also selected for the ICC’s Team of the Year. The ICC statement highlighted Bumrah’s impactful performances across Test and limited-overs formats in 2024.
