Tue Jan 28 15:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Home Rituals Offer Spiritual Benefits of Mauni Amavasya, Says Astrologer

**Jalore:** Mauni Amavasya, a significant day in the Hindu calendar, emphasizes silence and self-reflection. The term “Mauni” signifies maintaining silence to achieve mental clarity, while “Amavasya” represents the conjunction of the sun and moon. Traditionally, a bath at the Triveni Sangam (confluence of three rivers) during Mauni Amavasya is believed to bestow blessings. This year, the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati at Prayagraj during the Maha Kumbh Mela further amplifies the spiritual significance.

However, those unable to visit Prayagraj can still reap the benefits, according to Jalore astrologer Pandit Bhanu Prakash Dave. He advised a home ritual involving a morning bath with cow dung ash (gau raaj) and the recitation of a specific mantra: “त्रिवेणी माधवं सोमं भरद्वाजं च वासुकिम्। वन्दे अक्षय वटं शेषं प्रयागं तीर्थनायकम।।” This should be followed by meditating with 16 strands of durva grass (sacred grass) while mentally chanting prayers and focusing on spiritual devotion.

Pandit Dave explained that the core purpose of Mauni Amavasya is to achieve self-control over speech and mind, fostering devotion. Practicing these home rituals, even without visiting Prayagraj, allows individuals to channel their energy positively and experience the spiritual benefits of the Triveni Sangam bath.
