**New Delhi, January 26** – Uttar Pradesh’s Republic Day tableau captivated viewers today, showcasing the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj as a vibrant confluence of heritage (“virasat”) and development (“vikas”). The tableau, themed around “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India: Heritage and Development), featured depictions of the mythical Samudra Manthan (churning of the ocean), the Amrit Kalash (pot of nectar), and holy men bathing at the Sangam (confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers).
The display, which drew enthusiastic cheers from the crowd along Kartavya Path, highlighted the grandeur of the Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13th and runs until February 26th. A replica of the Amrit Kalash, tilted forward to symbolize the flow of sacred nectar, took center stage, surrounded by depictions of seers, saints, and devotees. Murals and LED screens showcased akharas (religious ascetic communities) and devotees participating in the sacred Amrit snan (holy bath).
Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Director of Information & Public Relations, Ram Manohar Tripathi, stated earlier this month that the tableau’s inclusion was a matter of great pride, offering a glimpse of the state’s rich heritage during the ongoing religious gathering. The tableau also incorporated elements showcasing the state’s development initiatives, emphasizing the intended “sangam” (convergence) of tradition and progress. Technological advancements in security and crowd management for the Maha Kumbh, including the state-of-the-art Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC), were also depicted.
A troupe of artists in traditional attire accompanied the tableau, enhancing the spectacle with the sounds of conch shells and damru drums. The tableau served as a powerful visual representation of the Maha Kumbh’s significance and Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to both preserving its cultural heritage and embracing modern development.
