**New Delhi, January 27, 2025** – The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the Waqf Amendment Bill has received a total of 572 proposed amendments to the draft legislation. The amendments, submitted by both BJP and opposition members, were circulated late Sunday as the committee enters its final stages of review. Notably, BJP allies did not submit any amendments.
The JPC, chaired by BJP’s Jagdambika Pal, will discuss the amendments clause-by-clause on Monday. The bill, introduced in the Lok Sabha last August by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, seeks to amend the 1995 Waqf Act to improve the regulation and management of Waqf properties. The bill has sparked significant debate between the government and opposition parties. The committee’s deliberations are expected to conclude soon.
