**Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia:** India secured their place in the semi-finals of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup after an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Bangladesh on Sunday. The win, at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, leaves India undefeated in the Super Six stage, topping the table with six points and a commanding net run rate of +4.567.
Star bowler Vaishnavi Sharma stole the show, claiming a hat-trick – a first for an Indian in the tournament’s history – and finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 15. This is her second Player of the Match award, and elevates her to joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament alongside South Africa’s Kayla Reyneke and Nepal’s Puja Mahato, with nine wickets in three innings.
After a rain delay, India’s bowlers restricted Bangladesh to a paltry 64/8 in their 20 overs. Sumaiya Akter’s 21 was the highest score for Bangladesh, with no other batter reaching double figures. Sharma’s hat-trick was complemented by contributions from Shabnam Shakeel, VJ Joshitha, and Gongadi Trisha.
India’s chase was swift and decisive. Despite losing opener G Kamalini early, Trisha Gongadi anchored the innings with a 40-run knock, studded with eight fours, before being dismissed. Sanika Chalke provided support, remaining unbeaten on 11. India reached the target in just 7.1 overs. Gongadi Trisha also leads the tournament’s run charts with 120 runs.
India’s next Super Six match is against Scotland on Tuesday.
