Mon Jan 27 00:10:01 UTC 2025: ## Eluru District Focuses on Women’s Empowerment and Development in Republic Day Celebrations

**ELURU, INDIA (January 27, 2025)** – Eluru District Collector Vetri Selvi. K. highlighted the district’s commitment to women’s development and employment during Republic Day celebrations on Sunday. Significant investments were announced in various welfare schemes, showcasing the government’s priorities.

Over ₹1,828 crore in loans were disbursed to 29,156 Self-Help Groups (SHGs), empowering women economically. The district is also undertaking a massive housing project, constructing over 3 lakh houses under the NTR Gruha Nirmana Padhakam at a cost of ₹1,868 crore. Further, a nutritious diet program is providing meals to 17,000 pregnant women and 97,000 children at a cost of ₹15 crore.

Addressing the issue of women’s safety, the Collector acknowledged the police department’s efforts in registering 1,587 cases under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, with 200 cases resolved through counseling. The Collector praised the police for launching ‘Abhay Rakshak Dalams’ dedicated to women’s safety and for conducting awareness programs.

The Republic Day celebrations also included the unfurling of the National flag by Eluru Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) G.V.G. Ashok Kumar and a commendation ceremony for employees. The event featured cultural performances by students and tableaux from various departments. The Collector also noted the government’s investment in providing quality meals to 15,132 children under the Srimathi Dokka Sitamma Mid-Day Meals Scheme, costing approximately ₹44 crore.
