Mon Jan 27 19:24:08 IST 2025: ## Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division Reports Strong Growth and Passenger-Centric Initiatives
**Thiruvananthapuram, January 27, 2025** – The Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division celebrated Republic Day by highlighting its significant achievements in the current financial year. Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Manish Thaplyal announced a 9% growth in gross revenue, reaching ₹1,716.42 crore, and a remarkable 8.1 crore passenger journeys. This success is attributed to a focus on passenger-centric initiatives, including station redevelopments and the operation of a high number of special trains, notably nearly five lakh passengers on Sabarimala special services.
Thaplyal emphasized the division’s commitment to safety, reporting zero accidents in the past year. He detailed significant infrastructure improvements, including track renewal (75 km), bridge reconstruction (10 major bridges), speed enhancements on the Thiruvananthapuram-Ernakulam stretch (to 100 kmph), and the completion of double-line projects between Nagercoil Town and Kanyakumari, and the Aralvaimozhi–Nagercoil Junction section. The division also completed the installation of advanced electronic interlocking systems at 32 stations.
Further improvements included safety measures at level crossings, such as emergency sliding booms and electrically operated lifting barriers. Freight revenue reached ₹305.19 crore, while non-fare revenue increased to ₹24.38 crore. Redevelopment projects are underway at major stations, including Thiruvananthapuram Central, Ernakulam Junction, Kollam Junction, and Varkala Sivagiri. The Southern Railway’s recognition with Indian Railway Overall Efficiency Shields for Civil Engineering, Comprehensive Health Care, and Security in 2024 further underscores the division’s success. The celebrations concluded with cultural performances by railway staff and their families.
