Mon Jan 27 13:38:07 UTC 2025: ## Political Clash Erupts in Dharmavaram Over Defection

**Dharmavaram, Andhra Pradesh, January 27, 2025** – A tense situation unfolded in Dharmavaram town on Sunday night as clashes erupted between activists of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) following the impending defection of YSRCP minority leader Krishnapuram Jamir to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The violence erupted after the display of welcome banners for Mr. Jamir’s anticipated joining of the BJP on Monday in the presence of Health Minister and local BJP MLA Satyakumar Yadav. TDP activists, reportedly led by constituency in-charge Paritala Sriram, who opposes the defection, tore down these banners, sparking a confrontation that escalated into a stone-pelting incident.

The clash resulted in damage to several vehicles, including three bikes and two SUVs. Police intervened to disperse the warring groups, and injured individuals from both parties were taken to a hospital. As a precautionary measure, authorities ordered the closure of shops and deployed additional security forces. Superintendent of Police V. Ratna personally oversaw security measures, establishing a police picket to maintain law and order.

The incident highlights growing tensions within the constituency ahead of upcoming local body elections, as parties compete for influence. The BJP’s win in the last assembly election in Dharmavaram, secured through an alliance with the TDP and JSP, adds another layer of complexity to the situation. Despite initial concerns, TDP leader Paritala Sriram had supported the BJP candidate’s campaign. The clash underscores the escalating political rivalry in the region.
