**Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh –** A 22-year-old liquor smuggler, Pravesh Yadav, was arrested in Prayagraj on Sunday while attending the Maha Kumbh. Yadav, a resident of Alwar, Rajasthan, had been evading arrest since July 2023 after a large quantity of adulterated liquor was seized during a police vehicle check in Bhadohi. He was among several individuals involved in a smuggling operation transporting illicit liquor from Rajasthan to Bihar.
Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik of Bhadohi stated that Yadav had been absconding for 18 months. Two accomplices, Pradeep Yadav and Raj Domoliya, were arrested in July 2023, but Yadav escaped. He faces charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including cheating, forgery, and selling adulterated liquor, as well as violations of the Excise Act and Gangster Act.
Despite attempting to blend in with the lakhs of pilgrims taking a holy dip at the Sangam, Yadav’s presence was detected due to enhanced police surveillance during the Maha Kumbh. His arrest highlights the effectiveness of the increased security measures implemented for the religious event.
