Sun Jan 26 20:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Bong Joon-ho and Robert Pattinson Launch “Mickey 17” in Seoul

**SEOUL, South Korea** – Director Bong Joon-ho and star Robert Pattinson launched their highly anticipated sci-fi film, “Mickey 17,” at a press conference in Seoul on Monday. The film, Bong’s first feature since his Oscar-winning “Parasite,” marks Pattinson’s first visit to Korea, where he was greeted by enthusiastic fans.

“Mickey 17,” adapted from Edward Ashton’s novel, tells the story of a disposable employee sent on dangerous missions who regenerates after death. Pattinson described his character, Mickey, as a “poorly trained dog” who must die 17 times to learn. Bong emphasized the film’s focus on the human element, portraying Mickey as a vulnerable working-class individual, unlike the novel’s portrayal.

Originally slated for a March 2024 release, “Mickey 17” will now world premiere at the Berlinale in February, before hitting Korean theaters on February 28th and US theaters on March 7th. Pattinson expressed his surprise at never having visited Korea before and his excitement about the film’s release.

The press conference also revealed unique aspects of Bong’s directing style. Pattinson described the experience as working on a “giant Star Wars” production, noting Bong’s method of shooting one or two lines at a time and showing the edit on set – a practice uncommon in US filmmaking. Bong explained this approach as a standard Korean filmmaking technique. The film also stars Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo.
