Sun Jan 26 18:10:44 UTC 2025: ## Tiruppur Farmers Demand Compensation After Dog Attacks Devastate Livestock
**Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, January 26, 2025** – Farmers in Tiruppur district are demanding compensation after suffering significant losses due to dog attacks on their livestock and poultry. At 24 Grama Sabha meetings held Sunday as part of Republic Day celebrations, a resolution demanding compensation was adopted.
However, in Sivanmalai Panchayat, affected farmers boycotted the meeting, protesting the lack of discussion on a similar resolution from a previous meeting. Farmers reported losses ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹2 lakh per farmer, with numerous goats and sheep killed.
Initially, farmers planned a protest at the Tiruppur Collectorate, but postponed their action after receiving assurances from the Kangayam Tahsildar. The Tahsildar stated that the issue had been brought to the State Government’s attention and a response was expected within 20 days.
P. Velusamy, president of the PAP Vellakovil Branch Canal Water Conservation Association, confirmed the losses and stated that the farmers will resume their efforts if compensation and a policy to control the stray dog population are not addressed within the given timeframe. The situation highlights the ongoing struggle faced by farmers in the region dealing with the devastating impact of stray dog attacks.
