**ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN** – Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have appealed their convictions in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case, their lawyers confirmed Monday. The couple was sentenced earlier this month to 14 and 7 years in prison respectively by an accountability court in Islamabad. The case centers around allegations of misuse of £190 million (approximately $230 million USD) returned to Pakistan by the UK’s National Crime Agency.

The appeal was filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), arguing that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) misused its authority and conducted an incomplete investigation. The PTI party stated that the appeal aims to overturn the conviction and secure an acquittal.

The original charges accused Khan, Bibi, and six others of causing a loss of approximately Rs 50 billion (approximately $180 million USD) to the national treasury. The funds, intended for the national treasury, were allegedly diverted for personal benefit, including the acquisition of land for Al-Qadir University. Only Khan and Bibi were prosecuted as the other accused were outside the country.

The case stems from accusations that the couple used the recovered funds to establish the university and personally benefit from the transaction. The appeal now awaits review by the Islamabad High Court.
