**New Delhi, January 27, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called on India’s youth to actively participate in the ongoing national debate surrounding the “One Nation, One Election” proposal. Addressing a large National Cadet Corps (NCC) rally in New Delhi, Mr. Modi emphasized the proposal’s significance for India’s democratic future.
He argued that the current frequent election cycle disrupts governance and development, contrasting India’s situation with countries like the United States, where elections are held on a fixed, less frequent schedule. Simultaneous Lok Sabha and state elections, Mr. Modi suggested, would lead to more focused governance.
The Prime Minister highlighted the historical context, noting that post-independence India initially held simultaneous elections before shifting to the current system. He urged NCC cadets and NSS volunteers to engage in thoughtful discussion about the proposal’s potential benefits and drawbacks. He reiterated his earlier call for one lakh young people to enter politics, bringing fresh perspectives and innovative ideas.
Mr. Modi also celebrated the growth of the NCC, noting an increase in cadet numbers from 14 lakh in 2014 to approximately 20 lakh today, with over eight lakh being female cadets. He concluded by emphasizing the vital role of India’s youth in shaping both the nation’s future and the global landscape.
