**NEW DELHI (AP) —** Tens of thousands of spectators gathered in New Delhi on Sunday to witness India’s 76th Republic Day parade, a vibrant display of military prowess and cultural diversity. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto served as the chief guest, marking the first time Indonesian troops participated in a foreign Republic Day parade.
The parade, held along the renamed Kartavya Path (Boulevard of Duty), formerly known as Rajpath Avenue, showcased a diverse range of participants. Indian defense forces, including camel-mounted units, marched alongside paramilitary troops and a 342-member marching band from the Indonesian National Armed Forces. Spectacular stunts by the Indian Army’s daredevils added to the excitement.
Cultural performances highlighted India’s rich heritage, with approximately 5,000 artists from across the country showcasing over 40 traditional dance forms. In Srinagar, the capital of Indian-administered Kashmir, the parade proceeded amidst heightened security measures, reflecting the ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region. Despite the cold weather and security presence, hundreds of residents attended the event.
