HYDERABAD, INDIA – A fire broke out on Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad on Sunday night, injuring four people. The incident occurred during a fireworks display following the “Bharat Mata Maha Harati” event organized by the Bharat Mata Foundation at People’s Plaza Grounds on Necklace Road.
Two boats belonging to the Telangana Tourism Department were carrying fireworks into the middle of the lake when the accident happened. Sparks from the fireworks ignited the remaining pyrotechnics on board, resulting in a major fire that completely destroyed both vessels. Seven people were on board at the time; four sustained injuries identified as Ganesh, Praveen, Praneeth, and Sunil. The injured were transported to Gandhi Hospital and a private hospital for treatment. Three others escaped unharmed.
Telangana Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, and other dignitaries attended the event earlier in the evening. Fire services personnel responded swiftly to the scene and brought the fire under control. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
