**BUFFALO, NY** – A High Wind Warning is in effect for much of Western New York, impacting Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, and Chautauqua Counties. The National Weather Service warns of southwest winds between 30 and 40 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 50 to 60 mph, especially across the Niagara Frontier. The warning is in effect from Monday into early Tuesday morning.
Residents are urged to exercise caution, avoiding outdoor activities near trees and forested areas. Staying on lower levels of homes and away from windows is recommended. Drivers should also be prepared for challenging conditions.
The strong winds are associated with a fast-moving low-pressure system currently bringing thickening clouds and scattered snow showers. Light snow accumulation of a coating to 2-3 inches is expected, particularly in higher elevations of the Southern Tier. Additional snow accumulation of a couple of inches is possible Monday night through Tuesday night. Temperatures will briefly dip mid-week before a significant warm-up is anticipated by next weekend.
