**Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, January 27, 2025** – Dr. J. Naresh Babu, a spine surgeon at the Mallika Spine Centre in Guntur, has achieved a significant double victory. He has been awarded the Best Spine Clinical Research Award 2024 by the Association of Spine Surgeons of India (ASSI) and elected as the association’s secretary.
Dr. Babu’s award-winning research focused on the progression of cervical spondylitis, investigating how daily neck movements impact symptom worsening in patients. The study, conducted at the Mallika Spine Centre, used Dynamic MRI on 50 patients. His findings offer valuable insights into the condition’s mechanics, leading to improved diagnostic and management strategies. The award includes a medal and a ₹25,000 cash prize.
In a separate development, Dr. Babu won a hotly contested online election to become the ASSI secretary, a first for a spine surgeon from the Telugu states. He will serve as joint secretary and treasurer from 2025 to 2027 before assuming the secretary role from 2027 to 2029. He competed against candidates from Delhi, Chennai, Pune, and Trivandrum.
