NEW DELHI, January 27, 2025 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal today, demanding his resignation following an alleged attempt to vandalize a statue of B.R. Ambedkar in Amritsar, Punjab. The BJP staged a protest near Kejriwal’s residence, resulting in the detention of several party leaders, including national general secretary Dushyant Gautam.
BJP leaders accused Kejriwal of insulting the Dalit community, citing the alleged incident and past actions, including a claim that Kejriwal had placed his own photograph on a poster of the Constitution instead of Ambedkar’s. They also criticized Kejriwal’s failure to appoint a Dalit as deputy chief minister in Punjab, as promised.
While Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann condemned the incident and stated that strict action would be taken, the BJP alleged that the AAP government in Punjab was complicit in the attack. A man has been arrested in connection with the alleged vandalism.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra called for Kejriwal to apologize to the Dalit community and resign. Patra also alleged that Kejriwal was plotting a self-inflicted attack to blame the BJP ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. The BJP released a manifesto detailing alleged AAP misdeeds, highlighting corruption charges against several AAP leaders.
The incident has sparked a major political row, with the BJP intensifying its criticism of the AAP in the run-up to the Delhi elections.
