**Indore, January 27, 2025** – Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid today condemned the attempted vandalism of a Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue in Amritsar, Punjab. A man, since arrested, was seen in a viral video attempting to damage the statue with a hammer. Mr. Khurshid, speaking in Indore at a Congress rally, expressed sorrow over the incident, stating that such acts cannot diminish Ambedkar’s legacy. He raised concerns about the lack of importance given to Ambedkar and its implications for understanding the Constitution.
Mr. Khurshid also questioned the Uttarakhand government’s implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), calling the decision perplexing and hinting at potential legal challenges. He even questioned the UCC’s application to his own property in Uttarakhand. The UCC’s implementation in Uttarakhand today marks the first state-level adoption of such a law.
Looking ahead to the Delhi Assembly elections, Mr. Khurshid emphasized the Congress’s commitment to maintaining the INDIA bloc’s unity, viewing it as crucial for the nation’s future.
