**Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, January 27, 2025** – The body of Uma Maheswara Reddy (25), a resident of Thoputurthi village, was found on railway tracks near Nagireddipalli in Anantapur Rural Mandal on Sunday morning. Anantapur GRP police are investigating the death, which the victim’s father, Malli Reddy, claims was a suicide driven by harassment from the brothers and associates of a former MLA from Rapthadu, Thoputurthi Prakash Reddy.
According to GRP SI Venkatesh, Malli Reddy filed a complaint alleging that his son faced ongoing harassment. Uma Maheswara Reddy, it is understood, had been posting on social media against the former MLA’s brothers. He had reportedly been summoned and warned during the YSRCP’s tenure. Since the change in government, he had been participating in government programs and residing in Anantapur.
While the police are investigating the possibility of suicide, speculation also surrounds a possible romantic relationship as a contributing factor. Uma Maheswara Reddy had reportedly been with a friend near Somuladoddi on Saturday night before the friend left. His body was discovered on the railway tracks the following morning.
The GRP is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. While the father alleges harassment, the possibility of suicide due to a personal matter is also being explored.
