**New Delhi, January 25, 2025** – The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of interfering in Delhi’s ‘vote-from-home’ scheme for elderly and disabled voters, alleging BJP workers accompanied election officials during home visits. The AAP shared a video, the authenticity of which is unverified, showing an elderly woman claiming BJP members were present during her at-home voting. The party, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), claimed this action undermines democratic processes and represents an alliance between the BJP and the Election Commission.

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi, R Alice Vaz, responded to these allegations with a detailed statement clarifying that representatives from all political parties are permitted to accompany election officials during these home visits. The CEO’s office explained that the ‘vote-from-home’ initiative, which has received over 7,500 applications, aims to ensure inclusive participation for the elderly (over 85) and persons with disabilities. The process, which utilizes a ballot paper and is videographed for transparency, is conducted confidentially and according to Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines. The CEO stressed that the scheme is entirely voluntary and those using it will not be permitted to vote at polling stations on election day.

The CEO’s office also stated that the route plan for home visits is shared with all contesting candidates, allowing them or their representatives to observe the process.
