**New Delhi, January 26, 2025** – India celebrated its 76th Republic Day today with a spectacular parade and ceremony at Kartavya Path. President Droupadi Murmu hoisted the national flag, marking the commencement of the event which showcased the nation’s cultural richness and military might. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was the chief guest of honor, joined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries.
President Murmu presided over the parade, which featured a vibrant display of India’s diverse culture, unity, equality, development, and military prowess. The Indian Air Force performed a captivating flypast, including Sukhoi-30 fighter jets, with a total of 40 aircraft participating. The aerial display comprised 22 fighter jets, 11 transport aircraft, and 7 helicopters, along with a demonstration by three Apache helicopters.
The parade also featured various tableaux, including one from Uttarakhand highlighting its cultural heritage and adventure sports, and displays by the BSF camel contingent, BSF troops, and NCC cadets. Advanced military hardware, such as the BrahMos missile and Pinaka multi-launcher rocket system, were showcased, generating considerable national pride. The parade also displayed indigenously developed vehicles, including the ‘Chetak’ ATV and ‘Kapidhvaj’ specialist mobility vehicle, designed for challenging terrains, as well as the ‘Nandighosh’ and ‘Tripurantk’ Quick Reaction Force vehicles, already serving in UN peacekeeping missions. A 190-member band from the Indonesian Military Academy (Akabri) also participated in the celebrations.
The Republic Day parade began with a performance by 300 artists using a blend of indigenous musical instruments, coordinated by the Ministry of Culture. Celebrations extended across the nation, with flag-hoisting ceremonies held in various states and union territories, and messages of congratulations issued by numerous officials. Prime Minister Modi extended his Republic Day wishes via X, emphasizing the importance of upholding the Constitution’s ideals and working towards a stronger, more prosperous India. The United States also offered its congratulations, highlighting the strong India-US relationship.
