**MUMBAI** – Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been named the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year for 2024. Returning from a long injury layoff at the end of 2023, Bumrah delivered a phenomenal year, according to the ICC. His outstanding performances, including a record-breaking wicket tally and crucial contributions in series wins against England and Bangladesh, as well as challenging away matches in South Africa and Australia, secured him the prestigious award.
Bumrah finished 2024 as the leading wicket-taker in Test cricket with an impressive 71 wickets, outperforming England’s Stuart Broad. Remarkably, he maintained an exceptional economy rate of 2.96 across 357 overs bowled. This achievement places him amongst an elite group of Indian bowlers, including Ravi Chandran Ashwin, Anil Kumble, and Kapil Dev, who have each taken over 70 Test wickets in a calendar year.
