**Prayagraj, UP:** Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today detailed the extensive preparations undertaken by the state government for the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. Speaking at the NDTV Mahakumbh Samvaad, Adityanath emphasized the lessons learned from the 2019 Ardha Kumbh, citing past criticisms regarding hygiene, potential for stampedes, and river cleanliness.
The Chief Minister highlighted the significant infrastructure improvements implemented since then. These include the construction of a civil terminal in a record 11 months, the upgrading of nearly 150 roads, and the implementation of improved sewage systems to prevent river pollution. For the current Mahakumbh, 14 underpasses and flyovers have been built, the civil terminal expanded, and an additional 5,000 acres allocated for parking to manage the massive influx of devotees.
Adityanath stressed that the Mahakumbh is not merely a religious event, but also an opportunity for sustainable urban development. He noted that the government proactively addressed potential issues to ensure a smooth and successful event, facilitating the convergence of millions of devotees from diverse backgrounds at the Sangam (confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers). Over 12 crore people have already taken a holy dip at the Sangam during the Mahakumbh, which began on January 13th and continues until February 26th.
