Sun Jan 26 06:49:38 UTC 2025: **Kerala Governor Stresses Unity for State’s Development on Republic Day**
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Jan 26, 2025 – Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration for the state’s progress in his Republic Day address. He linked Kerala’s development to the national goal of “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India), stating that one cannot succeed without the other.
Addressing the 76th Republic Day celebrations at the Central Stadium, Arlekar acknowledged the vision of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for Kerala’s development and suggested that any differences between them would be resolved through dialogue. His remarks are significant given the previously strained relationship between the Chief Minister and the previous Governor, Arif Mohammed Khan.
Arlekar urged introspection among the people of Kerala, using the metaphor of “Simhavalakona” (lion looking back), to assess past achievements and future direction. He highlighted the need for Kerala to serve as a model for other states, echoing the founding fathers of the Indian Constitution. The Governor also attended the ceremonial flag hoisting and reviewed a parade featuring various contingents.
The Republic Day celebrations were briefly interrupted when Thiruvananthapuram City Police Commissioner Thomson Jose collapsed beside the Governor during his speech. Mr. Jose received immediate medical attention and returned to the event shortly afterwards.
