**VISAKHAPATNAM, January 26, 2025** – The Waltair Railway division celebrated its 76th Republic Day by announcing record-breaking growth in originating loading and revenue. Divisional Railway Manager Manoj Kumar Sahoo attributed the success to the dedicated efforts of the division’s staff.
The division achieved a historic 76.48 million tonnes (MT) of loading and ₹10,268 crore in revenue, surpassing the previous records of 69.63 MT and ₹9,304 crore respectively. This achievement comes despite ongoing infrastructure development, including the addition of 69 km of doubled and tripled railway lines and the modernization of signaling systems. Freight traffic also saw a significant increase, with 1,366 long-haul freight trains compared to 1,162 last year.
Sustainability initiatives also contributed to the division’s success. Rooftop solar plants generated 1.73 million units of solar energy, resulting in ₹64.81 lakh in electricity bill savings. Furthermore, track upgrades to allow for higher train speeds (130 km/hr and 110 km/hr on 200 km and 100 km of track respectively) improved passenger train mobility.
The Republic Day celebrations included a flag hoisting ceremony, cultural performances, and a display of thrilling bike stunts by the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The East Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organization also distributed health drinks and fruits to patients. The DRM highlighted the significance of the Indian Constitution and the ideals of freedom fighters in his address.
