**Chennai, January 26, 2025** – O. Panneerselvam, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Vengaivayal incident, expressing strong doubts about the state police investigation. He alleges that the charge sheet, filed two years after the incident and just four days before a High Court hearing, was a deliberate attempt to prevent the case from being transferred to the CBI.
Panneerselvam further criticizes the lack of a report from a retired High Court judge appointed to investigate, highlighting what he sees as undue influence from the ruling government and attempts to shield the real culprits. He claims the two-year delay in filing charges demonstrates a lack of independence in the state’s CB-CID investigation.
In a separate statement, Panneerselvam also criticized Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s plea to retain Governor R.N. Ravi, suggesting that Stalin recognizes his government’s failures and relies on the Governor’s presence for political advantage. Panneerselvam alleges widespread failures across various departments and a deteriorating law-and-order situation under the DMK government.
