Sat Jan 25 12:08:46 UTC 2025: ## TRAI Eases Prepaid SIM Deactivation Rules: Rs 20 Minimum Balance Keeps Your Number Active

**New Delhi, India** – The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has announced a significant change to its prepaid SIM card deactivation policy, offering relief to millions of users. Previously, prepaid users needed to recharge frequently (often with amounts around Rs 199) to keep their SIM cards active. Now, maintaining a minimum balance of just Rs 20 will suffice.

Under the revised guidelines, SIM cards remain active even after 90 days of inactivity, provided a balance exceeding Rs 20 is present. The system automatically deducts Rs 20 to extend service for another 30 days, repeating this process as long as the balance remains above Rs 20. If the balance falls below this threshold, the SIM card will be deactivated but can be reactivated within 15 days by recharging with Rs 20. This change significantly reduces the financial burden on users who infrequently use their mobile phones. The new rules apply only to prepaid connections.
