NEW DELHI – The BJP has lauded the US Supreme Court’s decision to allow the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, an accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, to India. BJP spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi hailed the ruling as a victory for the victims and their families, attributing it to the Modi government’s strong stance against terrorism.
The Supreme Court’s decision, following Rana’s unsuccessful appeals in lower courts, ends a long legal battle. Rana, linked to Pakistani-American Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist David Headley, will now be extradited to face justice in India for his alleged role in the attacks that killed 166 people, including six Americans.
Trivedi used the opportunity to criticize the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, alleging links between the party and organizations that hinder India’s fight against terrorism. He specifically cited alleged involvement of Atishi’s family in filing mercy petitions for Afzal Guru, the 2001 Parliament attack convict. The AAP has yet to respond to these accusations, which were initially made by AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal in September 2024.
