PHOENIX, AZ – Phoenix Suns rookie forward Ryan Dunn suffered a left ankle sprain less than two minutes into tonight’s game against the Washington Wizards. The injury occurred when Dunn stepped on teammate Devin Booker’s foot while driving to the basket. He was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Dunn, who recently moved into a starting role on January 6th, has quickly become a key contributor for the Suns, averaging 10.2 points and 5.1 rebounds in his 10 games as a starter. His absence is a significant blow to the team, which is already battling injuries.
Bradley Beal, who was himself returning from an ankle injury that sidelined him for three of the Suns’ last four games, replaced Dunn. The Suns also activated center Jusuf Nurkic after a six-game absence due to illness.
This is Dunn’s second ankle injury of the season; he previously missed four games due to ankle issues. The Suns are currently the tenth seed in the Western Conference, but only 2.5 games behind the fifth seed. The team’s playoff hopes hinge on remaining healthy. The severity of Dunn’s injury is yet to be determined.
