**UDHAGAMANDALAM, January 26, 2025** – The Nilgiris district celebrated Republic Day with a vibrant ceremony at the Government Arts College grounds in Udhagamandalam. District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru presided over the event, unfurling the national flag and leading the distribution of ₹60.02 lakh in welfare assistance to 29 beneficiaries under various government schemes.

The celebrations included a captivating display of cultural performances by school children and members of the Adivasi communities, showcasing the region’s rich heritage. A women-led police parade, commanded by a woman inspector from the Armed Reserve police, presented the guard of honor to the Collector. Fifteen police personnel received Chief Minister’s police medals, while 159 government employees were recognized for their meritorious service with certificates of appreciation.

Simultaneously, at the Theppakadu Elephant Camp in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve, Deputy Director C. Vidhya hoisted the national flag and celebrated with a cake-cutting ceremony attended by Forest Department staff, mahouts, camp elephants, and sniffer dogs. Nilgiris District Superintendent of Police N.S.Nisha and other top officials were also present. The Republic Day celebrations in the Nilgiris highlighted a blend of tradition, community spirit, and governmental welfare initiatives.
