**New Delhi, January 26, 2025** – India celebrated its 76th Republic Day with a spectacular parade and cultural performances along Kartavya Path, marking the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s enactment. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was the chief guest for the event, which showcased India’s military might and diverse cultural heritage under the theme “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India: Heritage and Development).
President Droupadi Murmu took the salute at the beginning of the parade, which featured contingents from the three armed forces, Central Armed Police Forces, and state police units. A highlight was a tri-services tableau depicting a synchronized operation showcasing India’s increasing military synergy. Other tableaux represented various states and Union Territories, showcasing their unique cultural heritage and developmental progress. These included depictions of the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, the ancient Nalanda University, the Lakhpati Didi scheme for women’s empowerment, and the state’s focus on education and technology, amongst others. A notable first was the participation of over 5000 folk and tribal artists performing 45 different dance forms along the entire length of Kartavya Path.
The celebrations also included the presentation of 93 Gallantry Awards, including two Kirti Chakras and 14 Shaurya Chakras, and 31 police medals.
The event was attended by dignitaries including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, members of the Union Cabinet, foreign diplomats, and a large enthusiastic crowd. Celebrations also took place at Indian missions abroad, with the Indian diaspora participating in flag hoisting ceremonies. The day was marked by numerous messages of goodwill and unity from political leaders across the country. A Google Doodle celebrated the occasion with a unique portrayal of India’s diverse wildlife.
