Sun Jan 26 08:10:09 UTC 2025: ## Spectacle and Solemnity Mark India’s 76th Republic Day

**New Delhi, January 26, 2025** – India celebrated its 76th Republic Day with a vibrant and solemn parade down Kartavya Path, featuring over 18 marching contingents, 31 tableaux, and more than 5,000 artists. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was the Chief Guest, with Indonesian military contingents also participating.

The day began with Prime Minister Narendra Modi paying tribute to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial. President Droupadi Murmu then unfurled the national flag, followed by a 21-gun salute and the commencement of the parade led by Parade Commander Lt General Bhavnish Kumar.

This year’s theme, “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India: Heritage and Development), was reflected in the tableaux representing various states and services. A notable first was a tri-service tableau highlighting the integration of the Armed Forces. The spectacle included daring motorbike stunts, spectacular aerial displays by the Indian Air Force – showcasing formations like Arka, Trishul, and Amritkal – and a grand cultural performance along the entire length of Kartavya Path.

Over 10,000 special guests witnessed the 90-minute ceremony, while a massive security operation deployed over 70,000 police personnel across Delhi. The event concluded with the release of hundreds of tricolor balloons and a final flypast. President Murmu and President Subianto departed after the national anthem.

The celebrations were not limited to Delhi. Republic Day parades and flag-hoisting ceremonies took place across the country, with several Chief Ministers highlighting the significance of the day and the nation’s progress. Incidents such as a loud, unexplained sound in Guwahati and the participation of various state and regional leaders were also reported. The Republic Day parade was live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.

The day also saw poignant reflections on India’s journey. The father of Kargil War hero Captain Vikram Batra spoke about the continued struggle to maintain India’s freedom and unity, highlighting ongoing challenges. The event served as a reminder of both the nation’s achievements and its ongoing commitment to its ideals.
