**New Delhi, India** – India celebrated its 76th Republic Day with a spectacular parade along Kartavya Path, featuring Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto as the chief guest. The ceremony, which commenced at 10:30 am, began with President Droupadi Murmu unfurling the national flag and receiving a salute from parade commander Lt General Bhawnish Kumar.
The parade showcased the nation’s military might and cultural diversity. Over 18 marching contingents, including a contingent from Indonesia, and 31 tableaux representing various states and services participated under the theme “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas” (Golden India: Heritage and Development). A first-of-its-kind tri-service tableau highlighted the integration of the Indian Armed Forces. The parade also featured breathtaking daredevil motorbike stunts and a captivating 11-minute cultural performance by over 5,000 artists.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to fallen soldiers at the National War Memorial before the parade. Over 10,000 special guests witnessed the event, which was also live-streamed for a global audience. Security was tight, with over 70,000 police personnel deployed across Delhi. Tableaux highlighted various aspects of Indian culture and achievements, including those from Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Technological advancements, such as the DRDO’s ‘Raksha Kawach’ technology and the Akash weapon system, were also showcased.
The celebrations extended beyond Delhi, with state-level events held across India, including flag-hoisting ceremonies led by Chief Ministers. The Republic Day commemorates the adoption of the Indian Constitution on January 26, 1950. This year’s event marked the fourth time an Indonesian leader has attended India’s Republic Day celebrations, recalling the Indonesian President’s attendance at the inaugural celebration in 1950.
