Sat Jan 25 16:24:32 UTC 2025: ## Powerloom Weavers’ Strike Ends After Wage Hike Agreement
**Andipatti, January 26, 2025** – A 25-day long strike by over 4,000 powerloom weavers in T Subbulapuram and Sakkampatti has ended following a wage agreement reached on Saturday. The weavers, who had initially demanded a 50% wage increase, had been on strike since January 1st.
After three unsuccessful rounds of negotiations, the workers escalated their protests, including preparing and sharing rice gruel and marching to the Collectorate in Theni. A final agreement was reached in the presence of Periyakulam Sub-Collector Rajath Biden, Andipatti MLA A Maharajan, and Tahsildar Kannan.
The agreement includes a two-tiered wage hike of 10% and 13%, respectively, leading to the strike’s immediate conclusion. The powerloom units, which produce textiles including sarees, can now resume operations.
