Sun Jan 26 12:29:58 UTC 2025: ## Mysuru Blood Drive Shatters Disability Myths: 24 Differently-Abled Individuals Donate
**Mysuru, January 26, 2025** – A blood donation camp in Mysuru on Saturday successfully challenged misconceptions about the ability of people with disabilities to donate blood. A total of 35 individuals, including 24 people with disabilities, generously contributed.
The drive, a collaborative effort between Vivekananda Memorial Hospital, Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM), Blood Bank, K.R. Hospital, and Drushti Charitable Trust, was supported by Bharat Petroleum’s CSR initiative. Many donors had visual impairments, while others had locomotor disabilities.
Organizers emphasized that individuals with visual, locomotor, speech, or hearing impairments are generally eligible to donate, with the exception of those with certain blood-related conditions. The event also included a free health check-up offering consultations in ophthalmology, audiology, dentistry, and general medicine, primarily for visually impaired individuals.
The successful blood drive highlighted the independence and societal contributions of differently-abled individuals, organizers said in a press release. Those interested in donating blood can contact SVYM’s Disability Helpline at 9880005297.
