**New Delhi, India** – The Indian government announced 139 Padma awards on the eve of Republic Day, honoring distinguished individuals across various fields. This year’s recipients include a diverse range of personalities, from politicians and sports stars to artists and scientists.

Seven individuals will receive the Padma Vibhushan, the highest civilian award, including Malayalam writer and director MT Vasudevan Nair, and former Chief Justice of India Jagdish Singh Khehar. Nineteen will be awarded the Padma Bhushan, and 113 will receive the Padma Shri.

Notable recipients include posthumous awards for folk singer Sharda Sinha and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi. Other prominent awardees include Tamil actor Ajith Kumar (Padma Bhushan), singer Arijit Singh (Padma Shri), cricketer R Ashwin (Padma Shri), and Paralympic archer Harvinder Singh (Padma Shri). The list also features renowned figures such as ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, and economist Bibek Debroy.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the recipients, praising their “extraordinary achievements, dedication, and perseverance.” He highlighted their contributions as inspiring examples of hard work, passion, and innovation. The awards recognize contributions across various disciplines, including public affairs, science, social work, medicine, literature, sports, and civil services.
